Explanation
A woman who wants children but has not been able to conceive over a one year period of unprotected intercourse is said to be barren. Infertility is considered primary (congenital) if she has never conceived and secondary (acquired) if she has been pregnant at least once previously. Absolute or true infertility indicates an incurable causative factor; relative infertility indicates correctible causative factors.
Considerations
Infertility may originate with either the husband or wife or both. Male infertility results from many factors, such as a lack of viable sperm in the semen, a deformed penis, or impotence. Female infertility also results from a variety of factors, such as menstruation without ovulation, blocked oviducts, or vaginal and cervical infections.

Some physical causes of infertility cannot be corrected. Treatment depends on the specific cause, but herb formulas may aid conception in women with defective uterine development, hormone imbalance, low endocrine function and lack of amino acid breakdown.
