Explanation
This is an extremely common condition consisting of varicosities of the veins of the anorectal plexus often complicated by inflammation, thrombosis and hemorrhage. External hemorrhoids consist of small rounded purplish masses covered with skin and lie beneath the epithelium of the lower anal canal.
Considerations
Back pressure and venous stasis are the main factors in producing hemorrhoids. Any increase in intra-abdominal pressure, such as in pregnancy, is transmitted directly to the dependent veins of the hemorrhoidal plexus. Constipation is also a factor in causing hemorrhoids.
