Explanation
Arteriosclerosis is a general term covering a number of diseases of blood vessels. The type we are concerned with here is called Atherosclerosis and is characterized narrowing of the blood vessels due to accumulations of lipids along their walls. The condition develops and has a preference for coronary, cerebral and peripheral arteries. The etiological factors are probably both hereditary and environmental, (i.e. diet and lifestyle).
Considerations
The end result is reduction of the lumen size progressively up to total occlusion. The symptoms result from deprivation of vital organs and tissues of arterial blood supply. Predisposing factors are a diet which leads to elevation of blood fats and cholesterol, reduced glucose tolerance, smoking, and lack of exercise in addition to certain inherited tendencies.
Treatment
First consideration is the elimination of contributing factors such as tobacco and alcohol. Regulation of diet to reduce fat intake and provide sufficient, natural nutrients must be implemented immediately. Exercise of the right sort, rest and generally good hygiene must be undertaken. Most importantly, a program of correct Nutritional Therapy with the use of concentrated, natural food supplements is the major effort. A diet high in fiber content is beneficial.
