Explanation
This is an inflammation of the gums characterized by swelling, redness, reduction of normal contours, and a tendency to bleed.
Considerations
The condition may be either acute or chronic with remissions and exacerbations. Improper dental hygiene, malocclusion, improperly fitted dentures or a generalized stomatitis are basic etiological factors. In many cases, the condition is associated with hypovitaminosis D, metallic poisoning, blood dyscrasias, endocrine disturbances or any of the chronic degenerative diseases.
Treatment
Removal of the etiological factors must be the first step in correcting this condition. A general nutritional buildup is essential.
