Explanation
This condition is not truly a disease in itself but is symptomatic of other diseases or disorders involving faulty digestion. It is characterized by a series of abdominal fullness, eructation, heartburn, nausea, and occasionally vomiting. In rare cases dyspepsia can simulate symptoms of a heart attack, left sided chest and/or jaw pain and sob.
Considerations
Stress is a definite factor or triggering mechanism in most cases. Etiological factors include excessive use of alcohol, insufficient bile (liver) secretion, incomplete emptying of the stomach and acidification of the intestines. This requires evaluation for heart and liver disease.
Treatment
The use of antacids is contraindicated as a long term solution. Rather than having too much stomach acid, the largest percent of these cases have too little hydrochloric acid. A decrease or absence of hydrochloric acid can result from protein deficiency, decreased enzyme production, acidic chemical imbalance and deficiency of the entire vitamin B-complex and vitamin A.
