Explanation
Leukorrhea (vaginal discharge) is a white or yellowish mucous discharge from the vagina or cervical canal. Since the vagina needs secretions to moisturize it, a certain amount of discharge is normal, especially just before and just after menstruation (periods), or during pregnancy. Constant discharge, however, is often a sign of abnormality, usually infection of the lower reproductive tract.
Considerations
A vaginal discharge (Leukorrhea) in post-menopausal women may be a symptom of uterine cancer. Abnormal Leukorrhea (changes in normal amount, color, consistency, or odor) may well indicate disease or signal a miscarriage, especially if mixed with pus or blood. Because the female genital tract is easily affected by disease or infection, it is important to neither ignore nor be ashamed of abnormal discharge (Leukorrhea).
Treatment
The underlying cause needs to be treated. Douching cleanses the vagina and may ease accompanying symptoms, such as itching. But it can aggravate some conditions.
