Explanation
This is an acute infection of the lung with extensive, massive inflammatory invasion of alveolar spaces accompanied by a severe degree of toxemia and fever.
Considerations
It is usually preceded by acute upper respiratory infection. The entire organism is severely affected and recovery depends on the measure of resistance which exists or may be built up during acute stages. Adrenal exhaustion is common, resulting in chronic fatigue, chronic cough, low blood pressure, decreased vitality, and general debility.
Treatments
A highly nutritious diet rich in natural minerals and vitamins with adequate protein is essential. In cases of high fever, the patient is often too ill to eat. Blood sugar then drops rapidly, and acidosis develops. It is best in these cases to give the patient small amounts of orange juice sweetened with a little natural honey every two hours to relieve acidosis, aid in normalizing blood sugar, and prevent vomiting.
