Explanation
This is an excessive accumulation of gas in the stomach and/or intestines. It is commonly associated with indigestion.
Considerations
Digestive enzymes and hydrochloric acid must be produced in adequate amounts to facilitate normal digestion. Too little hydrochloric acid prevents essential nutrients from being assimilated. Nutritional deficiencies may restrict the production of enzymes, allowing bacteria to multiply, forming great quantities of stomach and intestinal gas. Also, a deficiency of normal beneficial bacteria in the intestinal tract will allow propagation of gas-forming bacteria. Oral antibiotics kill normal intestinal bacteria, which then should be replaced.
Treatment
The diet should consist of adequate amounts of fresh, raw green vegetables in particular. Remove from the diet all sugar, hydrogenated fats and oils, and processed, chemicalized foods. Replacement of normal healthy-producing bacteria is a must.
