Explanation
This is characterized by sudden, brief attacks of seizures involving changes in the state of consciousness, motor activity, or sensory phenomena. Types of seizure activity include gran mal and petit mal.
Considerations
These convulsive seizures may be associated with or due to a variety of cerebral disorders. In many instances, no etiological factor may be determined.
Treatment
Evidence has been mounting to support the view that epilepsy is closely associated with nutritional deficiencies and/or allergic phenomena. A lack of vitamin B-6 has produced convulsions identical to epilepsy in experimental animals and in infants and adults. Treatment with magnesium has given good results in epileptic persons, especially children.
