Explanations
Blood stagnation is a syndrome where the flow of blood is obstructed. This can happen due to physical trauma, unhealthy dietary habits like high-fat foods and smoking, or when the body’s Qi energy is not flowing properly. The condition is often described as painful, and becomes sharper as it develops into blood stasis. Conditions associated with blood stagnation or stasis include uterine fibroids, bruises, bone fractures, joint pain, heart disease, and migraines.
Considerations
Common autonomic nervous system symptoms are a ruddy face, congestion, sweating followed by chills, fever in the arms and legs, a sensation of pressure at the heart, palpitations, fluctuating blood pressure, vertigo, and tinnitus (a ringing sound in the ears). Emotional symptoms are nervousness, excitability, hysteria, melancholy, confusion, amnesia, headaches, shoulder stiffness, and a tendency to tire easily. Blood stagnation in middle aged women is usually from menopausal disorders (see Menopause). Because blood stagnation is an emotional disorder, the removal or reduction of sources of stress may markedly reduce the symptoms. Relaxants are sometimes useful (see Anxiety).
