Explanation
Water retention (Edema) is an accumulation of fluids in the body. It usually occurs in the hands, feet and ankles. The usual cause is fluctuations in the circulating level of hormones (especially estrogen and progesterone). These fluctuations cause retention of sodium in the blood stream, resulting in edema (water retention) in the body tissues.
